Dreaming in MK…

The club is building a working relationship with the MK floorball club, the MK Phantoms, as both sports share some similarities and our clubs have similar aspirations. The title of this post relates to the perfect future where a roller hockey rink is built in Milton Keynes, where a multitude of sports could enjoy the venue, including floorball and of course indoor/box lacrosse.

The MK Phantoms currently  travel 70 miles to Birmingham to play their league games, while the MK Roller Hockey club travel 40  miles Lutterworth for their games, as the current nearest roller hockey venue to MK.

How good would a roller hockey rink be in Milton Keynes for box lacrosse? Answer = Very good!

Update – November 2013

While the Planet Ice building is having a massive refit, a temporary ice hockey rink is being installed in the old Waitrose building in central MK. See MK Ice. This facility has an approximate lifespan of 18 months, when Planet Ice should re-open. After which, who knows what could happen. It’s possible the venue could be turned into a non-ice rink, for sports like roller hockey, floorball or indoor/box lacrosse. How good would that be!

Update – July 2014

We now hear that the vacant unit behind MKIce in the same building that used to be a Sainsbury’s many years ago may be turned into an indoor roller rink (so ideal for box lacrosse). This would effectively turn the whole building into a sports and leisure complex with ice and roller hockey rinks, plus bars, shops and restaurants. We imagine there are many dependencies before this could happen but how good would that be for Milton Keynes and the surrounding area. We’ll try and keep our ears to the ground on this possible development.

Update – February 2015

Alas all has gone quiet on rumours of an indoor rink in Milton Keynes. We’ll update this post if we hear anything new. In the meantime, the England Indoor Lacrosse Squad have been running monthly trials at the Midlands Arena in Lutterworth, in preparation for the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Buffalo, USA in September.
