History of the Milton Keynes Women’s Lacrosse Team

The Milton Keynes Women’s Lacrosse team has a rich history of growth, determination, and passion for the sport. The team’s journey began with a memorable debut at the Kiddle Cup in November 2015, where three novice Milton Keynes players – Em, Rebecca, and Zoe – joined forces with players from Buckingham and Oxford City to form the MKBOC team. Despite the wet and muddy conditions on that autumn afternoon in Northwood, the squad excelled, winning all their games against teams from Reading, Kent, UCL, and Imperial University. With unstoppable teamwork and guidance from experienced players Amy Marie Scott (Oxford City) and Helen Fryer (Buckingham), MKBOC finished as joint winners after the final was canceled due to poor pitch conditions.

The 2015 Kiddle Cup was an incredible first experience of competitive women’s lacrosse for the Milton Keynes players, who had only picked up a stick that summer at weekly training sessions at Furzton Lake and Shenley Brook End. Em and Rebecca showed rock-solid defensive skills, frustrating opponents with their resilience, while Zoe’s speed and agility in transition left teams struggling to keep up. This marked the beginning of an exciting journey for women’s lacrosse in Milton Keynes.

In 2017, the team took another step forward, playing a friendly match against City of Stoke Ladies at Stantonbury. This game was a testament to the team’s growth and commitment to developing their skills, building toward league competition.

The 2022/23 season was a significant milestone as the team entered the South East Women’s League (SEWLA) for the first time, showcasing their progress and determination to compete at a higher level. While still in a rebuilding phase, the team continues to grow and looks forward to a bright future in the league.

The Milton Keynes Women’s Lacrosse team remains dedicated to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for new and experienced players alike, building on the strong foundation established in its early years. The legacy of teamwork, resilience, and love for the game continues to inspire the team’s journey.
