League: East Grinstead ‘A’ 12 – 7 Milton Keynes

Not the best first competitive game of 2018 for Milton Keynes. Always trailing and making too many basic errors, gifting the ball back to EG way too many times, The shots stats say it all. EG had at least 40 shots, over 50% on target, and whilst Pat Land in the MK goal was disappointed in a couple that sneaked in, he saved plenty. MK’s shot total was more like 15, with only 8 or 9 on target, but we scored from 7 with 1 rebounding off the pipe. EG has the lacrosse know-how to get someone into a shooting position, MK didn’t today.

Only a couple of MK players could confidently say they had a good game today. In lefty attack, Brett Satchell scored twice and both showed he’s decision making gets better each game. Our only goal from a man-up play was because Brett saw that EG had switched off. As soon as the ref restarted play, he went direct to goal and found the bottom corner. Tom Carter, on MK debut, can also keep his head high with a goal, some physical midfield play and few basic errors. Lots to come from Tom for the remainder of the season.

Elsewhere the defence didn’t get physical enough. Hardly anyone in green could win a ground ball battle. Our offensive structure was lacking, passing and off-ball movement was sluggish. However we did score 7 goals even while playing poorly. Roll on next Saturday with a trip to play Reading 2’s.
