SEMLA 6′s Tournament 2016
The annual end-of-season 6-a-side tournament was again hosted by the Reading Lacrosse Club. Whilst finishing 17th out of 20 teams, Milton Keynes played well and battled hard in every game.
The opening pool matches saw us first play against Hillcroft, who are 26 places above us in the league rankings. We gave them a mini scare, scoring twice and playing tough defence but lost out 5-2 in the end. Next up was a battle against Hitchin 2’s with neither team able to score thanks to good goalkeeping and not particularly accurate shooting from both teams. Our final opening pool game was a loss against Croydon.
The mornings results meant we were playing for the Minor Trophy (higher ranked teams were playing the Senior or Intermediate trophy). A win against the kids from Reading School was followed by two semi-disappointing defeats. It all concluded with a final placing game for 17/18th against Welwyn 2’s. We saved our best until last and won with ease to go home placed 17th. Next year we’ll target winning the Minor Trophy or maybe even sneaking into the Intermediate division…
BONUS: We also received the official SEMLA East Division 3 trophy from the league president. Nathan is holding it with pride in the team photo above.
