General Principles

  • Mixed lacrosse promotes social inclusion and values diversity
  • The game is played with an equal gender split of 5 male and 5 female players on the pitch at all times
  • Teams can name squads of up to 18 players, with any number of players up to 10 permitted on the pitch at the same time

Equipment and Field Markings

  • The game is played on a FIL Unified Lacrosse Pitch with women’s markings
  • Standard, full-sized lacrosse goals are used
  • Women’s crosse (sticks) are used, with men’s crosses not permitted
  • Any solid, smooth, Elastomer lacrosse ball can be used

Teams and Players

  • Teams must have a captain who identifies themselves to the umpire at the start of the game
  • Players must wear consistent uniform, with clearly visible numbers on the front and back of their shirts
  • Goalkeepers must wear a top over their protective equipment in the same color as their team uniform
  • All players must wear a properly fitted mouthguard, and eye guards are strongly recommended

Umpires and Officials

  • Umpires must be individually registered with England Lacrosse and hold a minimum of a Level 1 Women’s Umpire Qualification
  • Umpires must enforce all rules and regulations, and their decisions are final and without appeal

Gameplay

  • The game is played with a running clock only
  • Substitutions can be made, but the overall number of each gender on the team must stay above the regulated minimum
  • The Self Start rule does not apply in mixed lacrosse

Fouls and Penalties

  • Minor fouls are applicable, including covering, hand ball, body ball, empty stick check, and more
  • Major fouls are applicable, including rough/dangerous check, check to the head, reach across the body, and more
  • Mandatory cards (yellow cards) are given for certain major fouls, including physical fouls, rough/dangerous check, and more

Advantage Flag and Misconduct

  • The advantage flag is played in accordance with the Women’s Rule book Rule 22
  • Players must conduct themselves in a considerate, sporting, and fair manner, with respect for players, opponents, and officials
  • All rules and penalties for personal misconduct are as stated in the Women’s Rule book Rule 23.
