Autumn ‘mixed’ training from 10th October at Oakgrove Leisure Centre

We are pleased to announce our weekly autumn lacrosse training programme will start on Thursday 10th October, from 8-9pm, and will run for 10 weeks, with the last scheduled session Thursday 12th December.

Update: Due to circumstances outside our control, our training will now be an 8-week programme with the last session on Thursday 28th November.

Training is open to all; men, women, beginners and the experienced. We will generally train using ‘mixed lacrosse’ rules, i.e. men and women together. The only equipment needed will be a lacrosse stick, and we’ll have plenty for new players to borrow.

Subject to numbers and the development needs of the group, we may split sessions into specific men’s and women’s drills. Then when ready, the men will get on the full men’s protective equipment (minimum of a lacrosse or full-face ice hockey helmet and lacrosse/ice hockey gloves), so players will this equipment, please bring it just in case. The club will be purchasing a full set of lacrosse helmets and gloves in due course for beginners to borrow at training.

As lacrosse is a contact sport, for both men and women, players under the age of 16 years are likely to find the sessions unsuitable. We can make exceptions after we see the youth player in action and discussed the situation, in person, with a parent or guardian.

The venue is the Oakgrove Leisure Centre. As you can see from the photo below, it’s a red “bitumen macadam” multi-use playing surface. It’s grippy but you’ll need flat/running shoes, not cleats. The lacrosse ball will bounce more than on a 3G turf surface so we’ll master those bounce shots into the top corners by December!

The cost will be £3 per person, per session. Beginners can attend their first two training sessions for free, and the basic equipment of a lacrosse stick (or ‘cross’) will be provided.
